President António Costa to go on annual round of visits to EU capitals

The President of the European Council, António Costa, will visit EU leaders in their capitals in the next weeks. This annual “Tour des Capitales” will allow President Costa to gather views from the heads of state or government, with a particular focus on the EU’s next long-term budget. As it was the case last year, the exchanges will help prepare the ground for the upcoming European Councils and international summits.

“Defence, competitiveness, enlargement and support for Ukraine will feature in my discussions with European leaders during my upcoming Tour des Capitales. But the EU’s next long-term budget will certainly stand out. These exchanges provide a vital 360-degree view of member states’ priorities and expectations, ensuring that the work of the European Council continues to reflect Europe’s realities.”
— António Costa, President of the European Council

The President will visit most EU member states between 25 August and 17 September.

During the first week of his tour, President Costa will meet the Prime Minister of Slovakia, Robert Fico in Bratislava, and the Prime Minister of Estonia, Kristen Michal, in Tallinn, on 25 August.

On 26 August, President Costa will visit Riga to meet Prime Minister of Latvia, Andris Kulbergs, and will travel to Vilnius for a meeting with President of Lithuania Gitanas Nausėda.

On 27 August, he will meet the Prime Minister of Czech Republic, Andrej Babiš, in Prague.
