The President of the European Council, António Costa, will conclude his last week of visits to national leaders from EU member states.
During the “Tour des Capitales”, President Costa will discuss the EU agenda with Heads of State or Government – with a major focus on the next long-term EU budget – and lay the groundwork for the next European Council meetings and international summits.
Schedule for end of week 3 and week 4
President Costa will begin the last sequence of visits on 13 September, meeting with the Prime Minister of Finland, Petteri Orpo, in Rovaniemi. On Monday, the President will attend the European Arctic Summit, after which he will meet the Prime Minister of Denmark, Mette Frederiksen.
On 15 September, the President will meet the Chancellor of Austria, Christian Stocker, in Vienna, the Prime Minister of Italy, Giorgia Meloni, in Rome, and the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, in Paris.
On Wednesday 16 September, he will meet the Prime Minister of Belgium, Bart de Wever, in Brussels.
On 17 September, President Costa will be in Dublin where he will meet Ireland’s Taoiseach Micheál Martin. President Costa will share with the Taoiseach his conclusions about his visits to the capitals, as Ireland currently holds the Presidency of the Council of the EU.
On 9 October, the President will meet Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Rob Jetten, in The Hague.
European Arctic Summit
President Costa will participate, together with a group of European leaders, in the European Arctic Summit, hosted by Finland, in Rovaniemi on 14 September. The aim of the summit is to strengthen the EU’s strategic approach to the Arctic region as its geopolitical significance continues to grow.
Background
By the end his third week of visits, the President will have visited 19 countries: Slovakia, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Czechia, Luxembourg, Croatia, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Greece, Cyprus, Slovenia, Poland, Germany, Malta, Spain, Portugal and Finland.
