Our common currency provides the foundation for the euro area and guarantees its economic stability. The euro is a milestone in the process of European integration and one of its most tangible and valuable elements.
Christine Lagarde’s tenure at the helm of the ECB has only strengthened the confidence in the European single currency.
The Eurogroup will act swiftly to prepare the recommendation of the Council of the EU to the European Council on the appointment.
Background
The European Council appoints the six members of the ECB executive board, including the president and the vice-president. It takes its decision on the basis of a recommendation from the Council and after consulting the European Parliament and the ECB governing council.
