Press Releases The Hydrogen Europe Quarterly

The Hydrogen Europe Quarterly

We are delighted to announce the online publication of the Q3 2024 issue of the Hydrogen Europe Quarterly magazine!

The hydrogen sector needs strong, expansive infrastructure; without pipelines, terminals, and storage facilities in place, our sector cannot and will not flourish

This issue begins with an article on how “two infrastructures are better than one”, with the insights of Christopher Andrey, Artelys, whose work shows the conclusion that a resilient and efficient carbon neutral system uses both electrons and molecules. His conclusions are supported by the real world, on-the-ground experience of Monika Unterholzner from Wiener Stadtwerke, and Anthony Mazzenga of GRTgaz.

Secondly, we zoom in on the issue of hydrogen storage – the means to store our clean molecule over long periods. Charlotte Roule of Storengy and Boris Richter of Storag Etzel, two heavyweights in the gas storage world, take us through their ambitions and priorities as they pivot towards hydrogen storage.

For our prominent person interview, we sat with Member of the European Parliament Dr Christian Ehler, who shared his views on the future policy priorities for hydrogen at European level.

Our member spotlight is on Enagás: we had the opportunity to discuss with their CEO, Arturo Gonzalo, the progress of their hydrogen infrastructure, as well as the panorama for its market in Spain.

Finally, our policy & market updates touch upon the most pressing matters involving the sector. This issue covers the Net Zero Industry Act, the development of the Important Project of Common European Interest (IPCEI) programme, and the progress in global certification schemes for hydrogen. Furthermore, we continue with the third installment of our year-long analysis of the global race on hydrogen technologies and provide a sneak peek of our forthcoming paper on hydrogen infrastructure.

Last but not least, we welcome a submission from our colleagues at Hydrogen Ireland on the potential of a renewable hydrogen transformation; and we thank our valued external contributors Höegh Evi and Joyan Consulting.

We hope you will enjoy this issue and find it to be a useful stocktake of where we are, and where we need to arrive on our mission to use hydrogen as a catalyst for a sustainable, carbon neutral world.
