Ahead of the Monday 24 February EU Foreign Ministers meeting and EU-Israel Association Council meeting, the European and international Human Rights organisations organized on the 19 February a panel discussion on the EU’s duty to sanction Israel’s massive Human Rights violations in Gaza and the Israeli Occupied Palestinian Territory. In particular about Commission`s failure to act as a Guardian of the Treaty in assessing Israel`s compliance with art 2 of the EU-IAA. In the context of ongoing ICC and ICJ investigations the European Commission as well as EU Member States have a duty to assess Israel`s compliance with art 2 of the EU-IAA.
Human Rights organisations – EU and worldwide – fear that EU Foreign Ministers won’t live up to their obligations and won’t appropriately address Israel’s massive violation of the EU-Israel Association Agreement. A review of trade and other relations between the EU and Israel is necessary to ensure that the EU is compliant with EU law, International Law and the International Court of Justice Advisory Opinion and the subsequent UN General Assembly Resolutions.
