A high-level conference held on the 28 July at the Press Club Brussels Europe, under the auspices of the Alliance Internationale pour la Défense des droits et des Libertés (AIDL) called for Pakistan to be stripped of its GSP+ status until it falls into line and honours its commitments in the field of human rights.

The country’s highly controversial blasphemy laws came under close scrutiny as delegates considered the multiple ways in which the laws are abused. Several delegates presented individual cases, including one of an 11 year-old girl, falsely accused of burning pages from the Koran.
