First international press briefing of Mr Péter Márki-Zay’s – the prime ministerial candidate of the joint Hungarian opposition

On the 11 November the Member of the European Parliament István Ujhelyi organised the first international press briefing of Mr Péter Márki-Zay’s – the prime ministerial candidate of the joint Hungarian opposition

For the first time in the history of Hungary, the six opposition parties (Hungarian Socialist Party, Dialogue for Hungary, Jobbik, Democratic Coalition, Politics can be different, Momentum Movement) agreed to hold a countrywide primary election in order to select the common candidates for the single member districts and to choose a candidate for Prime Minister of Hungary supported by the joint opposition coalition.

A non-partisan, independent, conservative candidate – supported by the Hungarian Socialist Party (PES member) and the Momentum Movement (ALDE member) in the second round – Mr. Péter Márki-Zay, the major of Hódmezővásárhely won the primaries, consequently, he will lead the joint opposition as the prime ministerial candidate of the Hungarian opposition coalition.

As a symbol of his strong and unquestionable commitment to the European Union, one of his first official foreign visits as prime ministerial candidate was lead to Brussels, where – according to his draft agenda – he meet inter alia various representatives of the European Parliament, the leaders of the Parliament’s political groups, Members of the College of Commissioners and leading figures of different think-tanks.

As a closure of his visit to the capital of the European Union, he discussed with the representatives of the international media about the key points of his visit to Brussels, plans for the upcoming period and his vision for the future of Hungary.
