Training session on journalistic independence and ethics

As part of a series of European training courses on journalistic ethics, the Belgian french speaking Conseil de Déontologie Journalistique, in partnership with its German, Austrian and French and Luxembourg counterparts, organised on the 31 January a closing session on journalistic independence and how it is perceived by the general public.

What is journalistic independence, and how is it perceived by the general public? How do European press/media councils deal with complaints regarding the confusion between advertising and
information, or between fact and opinion? Can a journalist also be an inuencer, or an activist? How can journalists – and press/media councils – avoid instrumentalisation? All of these questions will be addressed through a series of debates (in French and English) between representatives of European press/media councils.
